Breathable Backsheet vs PE Backsheet: Buyer Comparison
“Breathable” and “PE backsheet” are not always opposite categories. A diaper backsheet may use polyethylene-based materials in different constructions, including structures designed for particular permeability characteristics. The actual material, construction, and product behaviour must be confirmed for each proposed product.
Buyers should not use the term “breathable” as a product claim unless it is directly confirmed and suitable for the destination market.
1. Clarify the Terminology
Ask the supplier what “breathable” means in the proposed product and which backsheet information can be confirmed in writing.
2. Request Product-Specific Information
Do not assume material composition, permeability, performance, leakage protection, skin suitability, certifications, thickness, or other claims.
3. Define Your Market Requirements
Identify your target market, sales channels, product positioning, packaging expectations, and the information needed for your commercial evaluation.
4. Include Backsheet in Your Product Brief
If backsheet information is relevant, include it in supplier discussions, sample-review criteria, packaging workflow, and commercial documentation.
5. Request Representative Samples
Use samples to support your internal commercial, market, regulatory, and quality review. Define your own evaluation criteria before making a purchasing decision.
6. Use Qualified Testing When Needed
Where external verification is required, define the test scope, method, provider, acceptance criteria, and reporting process relevant to your project.
7. Verify Market and Labelling Requirements
Buyers should independently verify applicable product, import, labelling, regulatory, and market-entry requirements.
8. Document Confirmed Details
Record only supplier-confirmed product information, approved samples, test or inspection results where applicable, packaging details, and commercial terms.
